Still no pics...just ramblings

Crazy week at the Lyons house. My parents went on a business trip to Las Vegas this last week so Jacob stayed with Shannon Tuesday and Wednesday and then with Brancent on Thursday.
His first tooth came in around the first of the month and the second came in right after. Someday when I find the charger for my camera battery I'll try to snap his new pearly whites.

We are so excited to see Katie this weekend. We pick her up Saturday morning and she'll be here a whole week! YAY! She doesn't know about the new car yet so we'll keep that a surprise.

Yesterday was the Christmas Celebration at the Deaf church. It's a day we have dramas, different classes sing etc. Pastor Darrell and Kiefer (one of the youth) did a skit and in it Darrell was a donkey. So funny with a important message. Part of it being so funny is that Josh and Joseph voiced (Darrell's sons) and Joseph would bray every now and then. First time he did it I almost fell out of my pew. Hoping to get a video of it posted sometime. Classic Deaf church moments I wouldn't trade for anything. The service ended with 4 baptisms (3deaf 1 CODA) in including a multi handicapped boy and a 83 year old lady. Then last night Simon Swopes was baptized. We didn't get to go but Grandma and Grandpa took lots of pics and videos for us to see. Simon we are so proud of you and love you!

Wanted to post a video we watched yesterday, but having issues with my computer....if you go to www.adventconspiracy.org there is a video on their home page and it's also posted on YouTube, Check it out!

My new ride :D

A bright warm spot in my frigid day (aside from Jacob and Brancent) is my new ride. We are selling the truck to my dad and buying this lovely 2006 Hyundai Sonata. It's so nice and even has a sunroof which of course I can't use today since it's snowing. I don't have my camera so these are the best pics I could get from my IPhone. It looks purple but is a dark cherry or maroon color. So pretty!

Jacob's check up

Today we went for Jacob's 6 month check up (even though he will be 7 months Sunday-the ear infection delayed the check up) He weighed 18.8 lbs and is 27 1/2 inches. The Dr says he looks great and is doing very well developmentally. Brancent was there and the Dr office provided an interpreter. (Thanks to the terp!) So Brancent got to share the plethora of information that I normally have to try to remember on my own. Jacob is pulling up like a mad man. I have no idea how he did it, but this morning he was on his belly playing in the living room and when I peeked in a few minutes later he was sitting up in front of the recliner trying to pull up on it. Here are a couple of pics from this week. Thanks for the cowboys outfit Nana!

Brancent's first buck

*** Warning if you are a PETA lover don't read on....well actually go ahead...you might learn something :)

Before I continue let me throw this out there: The people I have meet that are the most educated and respectful of wildlife and the earth that God gave us, are hunters. I am not talking about the hillbilly's who tie the dead animals to the hood of the car. I mean real hunters. There is a time when hunting is necessary. It's not something I personally would enjoy. However I would like to learn to shoot a compound bow. I don't have the heart to kill something (except when I was pregnant I did come close-the lady who stole my wallet) but for some people that 's something that doesn't bother them and that's fine with me. (and Jesus was not a vegitarian-he was a Jew-lamb is quite yummy)
All that said.....

Friday after work Brancent went hunting with his dad Gene and his nephew Drake. He has not been able to go hunting in a long time and was quite nervous. They spent the night in Shamrock and planned to hunt Saturday morning then head back to Amarillo. Brancent said he woke up at 3:30 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep because he was so excited. Thank goodness for ESPN to help pass the time. I was at my parents house getting ready to help my mom paint her basement when I got a text message at 8:08 a.m. "I shot a buck!!" This was his first buck and he is extremely proud as he should be. So Deer jerky looks to be in our future if anyone has good recipies to share :)

Thanksgiving

We spent Thanksgiving in Lubbock at Jared and Patty's and I was able to work some Thursday and Friday. Everyone had a good time and of course the food was great! Jared smoked a turkey and it was delicious. Thanks for having us Jared, Patty, Simon and Mark!Lots of Cheese from SimonNoni and her famous cranberry saladMark and Popi watching the gameJared carving it up

MMMMM MMMMM good

Happy Monday everyone! Yeah....I can't believe I used Happy and Monday in the same sentence either. The weekend was good. Friday night and Saturday morning I worked in Lubbock. Jacob and Brancent were suppose to journey with me but Friday morning he found out he would have to work until 6ish because so many people hadn't shown up. Thanks guys. So I made the trip alone and the boys stayed here. Only highlight was I got to see Simon (and Jared and Patty) Friday night and he showed me his very cool card tricks. Saturday night Brancent Jacob and I went to the Mendoza's house to watch the first half of the very sad OU vs Texas Tech game. Soooooooo sad.

Had some really cool things happen this weekend/today. God's provision makes me laugh sometimes and unfortunately I at times only take notice and acknowledge His provision when it comes to money. I'm working on it though....
1. I have an Iphone that my super cool boss/pastor gave to me. It is his old one but it works great and I love it! Long story short I went into an ATT store twice and then called once to get unlimited text added. Each time I was told it had been added but then I would get my bill (insert screams of horror here). This has been the pattern for 4 months! I was so frustrated and decided to call Saturday to see if I could report the imbecile that apparently added unlimited to my phone 3 times yet it never showed up. After explaining what had happened the lady told me she would backdate everything and add it. The amounts that I had paid for months past would have been overpayment and she would credit to me. It ended up that my bill for this month ($145) was wiped out by the credit and I still have a $17 credit left.

2. We received a check in the mail from Brancent's insurance. They are paying back for services between certain dates they should have covered but didn't. So they sent a nice little check in the mail. (No sorry, this doesn't mean my faithful blog readers will receive Christmas gifts-Jacob's Dr will receive an almost pay off of his bill from when he was born)

I think I am in a season where God is gently and constantly reminding me He is there regardless of the change and uncertainty around me. I admit change, big or little, is hard for me and I can get very rattled by it. However, the thought of His promise of continual presence is so good-like sitting in the sun in a fluffy chair at Starbucks with a cup of Mint white chocolate mocha kinda good or a slobbery kiss and smile from Jacob kinda good. :)

Good grief...he's only 6 months

So yesterday in the midst of a tired fit my mom set Jacob in his crib (at her house) and he started playing. She turned around and he had pulled to his knees. This morning I sat him in the crib again to see what he would do....

After this he got excited let and let go fell back and bonked his head. After lots of kisses from mommy he was fine and wanting to chew on something else. Only good thing is that for now he can only do this from the sitting position. He doesn't know how to go from lying to sitting so we are safe for a while....He is doing ok with the ear infection. Mornings and days he's fine but late afternoon and evenings get rough.

I am way behind in blogging. Mainly due to not having a computer that blogs easily on the weekends and a son with an ear infection. Jacob is doing good just fussy now and then, but he still dishes out his smile to any one who gives him attention. He slept the other night8:30 pm-8:00 am. I can't count how many times I got up to check on him. It was his first time to have medicine and I freaked myself out with the "what if he's allergic, what if he stops breathing, what if...." I think I prayed myself to sleep. I have lots of other fess ups but will save them for a later post. Rock n rollin

My friend Melissa has tagged me: this means I am suppose put a link to her site, share 7 random things about myself and then tag 7 blogger friends. As for the link I don't know how, but you can look to the top left of my page and click to see her blog The Haskell Rascals. I don't have 7 blogger friends but I will share the 7 random things.

1. I hate emails that have "forward this if you really love God"(I highly doubt God will ask me how many forwards I sent in His name on the day of judgment. or "Forward this to 10 people and witness a miracle" (Fail- I witness miracles everyday they are named Brancent and Jacob-ohhhhh burn)

2. I pick up annoying phrases from the hearing youth I am around, and a few of the Deaf ones (refer back to #1)

3. One of my numerous middle/high school nicknames was Naughty Duck-no it's not as bad as it sounds-quasi long story, if you really want to know ask next time you see me.

4. I have a gi-normous coffee cup holding candy on my desk-it's actually a planter

5. My oven has not worked since before Jacob was born-Stove top yes, oven no

6. Even though I am currently freezing in my Artic office I am munching on Hud's ice-so good- and will be found in a snowstrom in front of the fire eating icecream with my mom

7. I cried watchinig Jon and Kate plus 8 last Monday when they renewed their vows-and partly the thought of having 8 kids....

On my way to pick up Jacob last week I called my Mom and she and Jacob had just arrived back from an errand. She asked if she needed to take Jacob out of his car seat and I said it didn't matter to me it depended on his mood. When I got to her house this is what I found.Mom said it was being outside without the wind. They were watching the cars go by and naming the colors of the cars. Does he look relaxed or what!

The hair...by self

Ok here is the pic of my hair. I need to put a disclaimer that when I left the hairdresser last Friday it looked a lot better and can look better than this picture. My time spent on my hair varies depending on the mood of my child. Those of you with kids know what I mean.... By 8:30 a.m. I feel like I've had a full day and my hair looks like I have! LOL
Have a great Tuesday everyone!

"O 67" "B 8" "N" I 25"

What a weekend. Friday morning Brancent left for DMC (Deaf Men's conference) which was in Glenrose, TX this year. Jacob and I worked on 2 surprises for him, Jacob's 6 month pics and my new hair cut (will post pics later when if I can get some taken). Saturday we did some Christmas shopping and had lunch with Noah and Libby. Saturday night we celebrated Apryl's 30th birthday with playing BINGO. Don't laugh, it's what she wanted to do! It was so fun. Table full of 20 and 30 year olds that had never played "professsional" bingo before. One of the guys remarked "I've never had to concentrate so hard at a birthday party in my life." Ah the sound of doppers on the table. Brancent got home last night and told me as much about the weekend that he could before he fell over from exhaustion.

Touchdown!

Hanging out in the little man chair

Yes I know, I know, he has chubby cheeks :)

Bitter Beer

Tuesday evening after supper Brancent Jacob and I trekked to Burlington looking for Jacob a shirt. When we were finished I mentioned to Brancent that I had heard on the radio if you went to a starbucks and said you voted you could get a free coffee. I burst his excitment bubble when I told him it did not include the frappichino only the house coffee. He had never tried the house coffee so we hit the drive through on our way home. He got the free house and picked the "raw sugar" to add in. He didn't realize at the time it's the most natural but the least sweetest of the bunch. The coffee was so hot he wasn't able to try it until we got home. I was sitting in the floor with Jacob when I heard him yell and looked up to see the funniest "bitter beer expression". "Gross it's bitter" I started laughing and he ran into the kitchen to find something to add to his coffee. I followed with the camera and finally convinced him to take another drink while I took a picture. After his second drink he said "do you remember the bitter beer commercials? that's what I feel like" Alas even with more sugar he still did not like the coffee. Guess he'll stick to frappachinos from now on.
There's the face...still handsome!

AHHHHH Baby jail

I did not put Jacob in a laundry basket and call it a play pen....oh wait it's not time for fess ups.

Fess ups

My friend and "Queen of the blog" Melissa has a blog she does every week of Friday fess ups. Things she "did not" do the previous week. I didn't have a chance to post Friday so we are going to go with Wednesday fess up.

1. I did not yell furiously at the driver in front of me while getting on the highway. Everyone stops while merging onto the highway.

2. I do not have road rage.

3. I did not let old broccoli stink up my fridge cause I was to tired to mess with it. That would be gross.

4. I have not been over snacking on left over Fall Festival treats. Nor did I pick out the good stuff and out them in my office. Only fruits and veggies for me.

5. I do not have a Dr. Pepper addiction..."Hi my name is not Melanie and I don't have a problem"

6. I do not get tired of ignorant people and their remarks "oh you know sign language, your husbands deaf? Can he drive? I know my ABC's see A........................... B............................C......."

6. I do not pretend to be deaf to avoid making conversation with annoying sales people. What a horrible example that would be!

Happy Fall Ya'll

I love the fall. I get so excited when the pumpkin patches are put out cause all the fun stuff -Fall Festival, Thanksgiving, Christmas Shopping is not far behind.
Friday night we had our church Fall Festival. We didn't have a lot of people but we had a lot of fun. Apryl and Gabe came for awhile and brought Jaxs in his fireman outfit. Early in the day I took Jacob to the pumpkin patch. There were not a lot of pumpkins left but enough to make some pictures. I will post more on my shutterfly site. Have a great day everyone!

Please Pray

A friend of ours Josiah Withrow (16 years old) had a heart transplant yesterday evening. Please pray peace and God's healing hand on him and his family. Also please pray for the family in California that donated the heart.

For the Grandma's

So excited to go to Grandma's

Showing off the outfit Nana Beth bought (actually that Brooke, Jaime and Melanie bought with Nana's credit card) before Jacob was born. Finally fits!

Silly Chihuahua

What a weekend. We had our annual Deaf Women's retreat this past weekend and had a good time. I think one of the coolest parts is our dinner Saturday night. The men prepare it serve it restaurant style and....clean up. It's great. Brancent helped with the main dish so hopefully he'll cook it at home again.
Yesterday went to Lubbock to pick up some games from Patty for the Fall Festival Friday. Thanks Aunt Patty! We also saw Simon during his lunch at school which is always a joy. Last night we went to Brancent's Maw maw's (Gwen) house. We hadn't seen her in a while so we stopped by. She has 2 old Chihuahua's that are quite the barkers. They scare Katie to death even though they really couldn't do any harm. I was wondering what Jacob would do when they barked. Well we went amid the chorus of barks and sat down. Jacob in his normal wide-eyed state stared at the dogs. Trouble (the dog named for obvious reasons) continued to bark. All of the sudden Jacob starts laughing. The more Trouble barked the harder Jacob would laugh. All the adults were laughing too. So I guess as of now he likes the dogs and finds them very silly. Of course Troubles wouldn't bark and Jacob wouldn't laugh as soon as I got my camera.
Here is a video from in the car. Jacob was half laughing half whining. Someday I'll catch him really laughing but for now...pardon my voice :)

Boys and Baseball

What a weekend. Friday and Saturday I worked in Lubbock while Brancent, Jacob, Jared,Patty, Simon, Nelva and Wayne hung out. We had a hotel room so Simon and his friend got to swim with Uncl Brancent and Grandpa. We wanted Jacob to swim but it was to cold.
Sunday was a typical busy day and we hosted "Seven" at our house. We had it early so we could all watch the final game between the Sox and Rays. Our friend Matt is a Sox fan while his brother Andrew (love the mowhawk!) is a Rays fan. Jacob was very entertained by all the big boys at our house. Sox lost but we still love em. However if they get rid of Varitek my love may wane.... I will be cheering Tampa bay on in the World Series.
Lots going on this week for me with our Women's retreat coming up this weekend. Super excited and busy. Hope you all have a great week!

It worked!

Ok so know that I know I can download videos I had to put the video of Jacob's first baby food experience. It's kinda long so know if you are not related to us I don't expect you to watch it :) Apparently he won't be a picky eater.

Where'd it go????

This week has flown by. I'm not sure why. Maybe it was because I took off work Monday (which was a fabulous day with Jacob) or because I didn't really get a weekend but I can't believe it's Thursday. Jacob is doing good still drooling and chewing everything he can get his hands on. As of today he has eaten sweet potatoes and carrots which he loved. Tonight is squash so we'll see how that goes. Brancent is good just dissapointed the Red Sox may not make it to the World series. Like a true Sox fan though he hasn't given up on them nor will he until the last out in the ninth inning. Last Sunday night was the first night of our new youth home fellowship group called "Seven"...guess what time it starts? It was really good. It's a mix of college and high school. They are the best kids. We will rotate meeting at our house and Josh and Libby's house and rotate teaching week to week. I will be taking pictures and posting them in the future.

This video was from Tuesday night when we went to Lubbock along with my parents to the Sorenson open house. Brancent and I sat in the back with Jacob and had all kinds of fun. Jacob loves Brancent's voice and silly noises. They are very entertaining to watch.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

This and that

Jacob had baby food for the first time Tuesday night. He had sweet potatoes and seemed to like them despite some odd expressions. His chewing and drooling continues to get worse so we may see a tooth in the near future. In the meantime here is Jacob's take on recycling.

1. Excitedly receive junk mail

2. Insert into mouth and chew
Waiting for the sweet potatoesTaste like Chicken!!!....(if I knew what chicken tasted like)

Planning on flying any day now....
