Tubes, pipes, and puppies.

A lot has gone on since my last post. November 6-7 we had our annual women's retreat at the Deaf church. So fun and so good! Time with other women is so needed and enjoyable. One thing that made the weekend so special was that our friends Jesse and Krystal came. Krystal and I went to the retreat while Brancent and Jesse worked on the backyard. Poor Jesse came to visit and Brancent put him to work!Of course we had to let Jacob try out Uncle Jesse's boots!

Everything with Jacob's tubes went well. Thanks for you prayers. He was quite ticked when they brought him to us from recovery, but by the time we got home he was in a better mood. I'm sure the Krispy Kreme donuts his daddy bought him didn't hurt his mood any. Nothing like coming off meds and going straight into a sugar high!

That same Monday morning after the tubes Brancent was working in the yard and discovered our gas line was cracked. So that very day we loaded up and moved to my parents house. Luckily we were able to get it replaced and were back into the house by Wednesday. It was an eventful Monday.

Katie comes this week for Thanksgiving and we are SO ready to see her! Hope everyone has a wonderful and thanksgiving filled thanksgiving! We have so much to be thankful for!

ENT Report

Yesterday after visiting with the ENT we scheduled for Jacob to get tubes November 9. The visit went well and was like anywhere you have to wait with a toddler: "No. Come here. Put that down. Stop. Don't kick that. Don't touch. Pick that up. Don't lick that...." Jacob had just woke up from his nap and was raring to go so he was quite a toot while waiting. Please keep him and us in your prayers. Seven months ago if someone had asked me if I would be gung-ho tubes I would have said no way. Amazing how 5 ear infections, doctor visits and antibiotics in 6 months can change all that!

Be in prayer for Brancent too. He stayed home from work today because he wasn't feeling good. He is suppose to leave tomorrow morning for the Deaf Men's Conference in Dallas. He looks forward to it every year so we are praying hard he gets better tonight and is still able to go.

I have been wanting to post this story for awhile...today's the day. (wow that sounded dramatic!)

Last month my mom decided to bake some chocolate chip cookies (Thanks mom!). She made a few small ones that had very little chocolate and no nuts for Jacob. He was quite proud that he had his own "Jacob sized" cookie and nibbled on it as he played. He was in the front bedroom at my mom's house and she said "all of the sudden he stopped playing and looked off like he was remembering something. He took off running down the hall, so I grabbed my phone and followed him. When I got into the living room this is what I saw."He was sitting in the living room feeding his cookie to none other than Cookie Monster! Cracked me up that he made that connection just from seeing cookie monster eat cookies, and sometimes the letter of the day, on Sesame Street. Crazy how much they learn!

Today is the big day we take Jacob to the ENT. I'm a little nervous about the appointment for many reasons I can't share, but when I remember God is in control I have such peace.

Plus a doctor's visit with these two...how could it not be fun!

Catching up

We have survived H1N1 with Jacob. He tested "weakly positive" and had a low grade fever one day. The worse part of it all was a snotty nose. Snotty meaning thick and green. I didn't know so much mucus could be produced by one little body. It wasn't all that terrible for him, after all he got to:

We took him back to the doctor last Thursday and his right ear was infected. Hasn't slowed him down any though! We go to the ENT on the 28th, please be in prayer for us and Dr. S.

This past Saturday was perfect. I had no plans and was able to get some things done around the house. Jacob took a long nap and after he woke up we went to SE park to feed the ducks. He had never seen ducks before and couldn't stop staring at them. When they would splash and go after the bread he would crack up! Jacob wanted in the water so bad, yuck!

In the last picture it looks like he is signing eat but he's actually trying to sign duck. Any time he signs bird or duck he has his fingers pointed towards him instead of out. It's pretty funny.

When we left the park it was Sonic happy hour. Coincidence? I think not. While waiting on our drinks Brancent decided to entertain Jacob, and myself.

I visited a church Saturday night and I was so glad I did. Anything I could say about it here wouldn't do it justice. Afterward I went home to rock my baby. It was a perfect day!

Summer Synopsis and then some

Ah what to say about summer. Busy? Fun? Crazy? Went by to fast? Yes, Yes, Yes and YES! It was a good summer. Katie came during the month of July and part of August. We picked her up in OKC and headed to Tulsa to spend some time at Brancent's aunts house with his mom and family. A few weeks later Brancent and Katie headed to the New Mexico mountains for some camping with Brancent's dad's family. Jacob and I stayed home due to yet another ear infection (as of the end of August he has had 3 ear infections in 4 months). This infection was a little more memorable due to projectile vomit. Let me just say pay attention to the dosage you Dr tells you, don't count and the RX label to be right. Cursed Walgreens. Katie and I went to youth camp the first of August and she did great! It was her first year as a camper and she loved it. Combine that with youth and children programs, office work and house duties...craziness, but I loved every minute of it. Katie has been enjoying 6th grade and is playing the flute in band. She said "I love band! and the flute is easy!" We are super proud of her.

Jacob is a riot. Around the end of May he started saying his first word....juice. We know where his priorities are! He is now saying and signing Daddy when he sees Brancent and will sign mom when I ask. He says momma, but not actually to me. He is so unbelievably stubborn, but I can't blame Brancent for all of it. He is such a busy boy and wants to explore everything which makes for interesting outings. He loves his signing DVDs and squeals and laughs when we put one in then goes into the zone when it is on. The other night we put in a DVD for Brancent and I to watch and when Jacob realized it wasn't one of his he started bawling!

Jacob stories of the month: I got home from work last week and Jacob and Brancent were already eating supper without me. Brancent said Jacob came into the house got his plate off the cabinet, put it on the table, and climbed into his highchair all on his own. He then looked at Brancent like "well, feed me".
Since I work at the Deaf church and we worship there Jacob is at the church/office all the time. He recognizes it as soon as we pull into the parking lot. He has started clapping when he sees the building and when we go in he knows exactly where the animal crackers are kept! The other day when we went to the church to clean he started getting excited and I and said "Yeah we are at church" I turned around to show him the sign for church and saw him signing cracker! Church=Animal Crackers in his mind. We'll work in that later :)

Jacob's new trick

Jacob has turned into a climber. He wants to climb everything and can get onto the dinning room chairs by himself. Monday night I changed his clothes and we were about to leave to meet up with my parents and my second (?) cousin and his wife who were in town. While walking down the hall I heard a splash and found Jacob on top of the dinning table having just dumped my red fruit punch all over him. Apparently he was trying to get a drink and it came out a little fast.
This is the other talent he has developed....Sigh. He really likes the fast cook button.

I am not a theif! Well, technically...

This past weekend Brancent's best friend Jesse and his girlfriend Krystal came to visit for Brancent's birthday. The best part was that Brancent didn't have a clue they were coming. They arrived 1:00 am. Saturday morning so I had told all kinds of lies trying to keep Brancent from going to bed and to, uh, get him to put something on other than his pj/undies. The look on his face was priceless when they walked in! They brought their puppy Diesel with them and he and Jacob were quite pair.


Thanks so much Jesse and Krystal for coming to visit! Maybe next time I'll get some pictures of you too :)

Brancent got a little cardboard boat from his work (I know, random) and Jacob has been testing it out. Like father like son.
Now on to the title of the post. Some of you know our friends Eddie and Socorro Baggerman that live a few blocks from us. Several weeks ago Eddie had a wreck on his motorcycle while travelling on the highway. He has first and third degree burns on his arms and legs due to laying on the hot asphalt, but thanks be to God no broken bones. It could have been a lot worse. We stop by to see him one night last week on our way to the grocery store. Socorro was on her way home so I called and asked if she need anything. She told me of a few things she needed and then added "and some chocolate". Socorro hates chocolate, but will eat it when she is stressed and said that day was a chocolate day and she wanted a Milky Way. We got our groceries and made our way to the front. On the way to the front I began the check out routine: Get diaper bag and purse out to cart, find checkbook, look for a pen, find license, continue to look for pen, entertain Jacob/keep him positioned so he can't reach anything, find pen. I saw a display with a Milky Way close to the front of the store, grabbed it and got in line. We paid for the food, and headed to Socorro's house to drop off her groceries. She asked for her chocolate and at first I thought I hadn't gotten it. We looked through all the bags and it wasn't there. Puzzled we looked again, just for kicks I looked in the diaper bag and there it was. That's when I realize I had absentmindedly dropped it in my diaper bag, therefore-stole it. I found my receipt and checked sure enough I hadn't paid for it. So the next day I went back to pay for the stolen chocolate and here is the receipt to prove it.

I'm not a thief!....anymore :)

I can't believe it has been so long since I have blogged. It will take several post to catch up on all the summer going-ons. But for today just a post to say Happy Birthday to my sweet husband. You are amazing. You the best provider and protector that anyone could ask for. I love you!

I turned 30...

Ok so I haven't posted anything yet about turning 30. Mainly because I was not excited about it. My friend Josh Bonjour can take any situation in life and relate it to a Sienfeld episode. I can't do that with Seinfeld, but I can with Friend's. So anytime I thought about turning 30 I felt like Joey in the clip below.

Marriage Retreat

Not a lot of time to post today due to major wreckage in my office (part me, part Jacob being in the office Friday). I will post Fathers day pics and updates in a few days, but wanted to make a short post about the marriage retreat last weekend. AMAZING. I learned new principles for marriage that I had never heard before despite growing up in church. We used the Andy Stanley series imarriage. I strongly recommend it. The first session was about how we go into marriage with "dreams and desires" of our spouse or how we think things should work and those things get turned into "expectations or demands". When our spouse does not fulfill what has become an expectation we get dissapointed/pissy or when they do there is no gratitude because it what they are "suppose to do". Anywho good stuff. Darrell, Matt Mandy and I made a video to visual show some of the dreams turned into expectations that can happen.

My longest post yet

I have wanted to blog so many times this past week, but haven't had the time. Some day the Lyons house will have a good computer at home and I will produce more blogs than imaginable. Ok, well maybe not that many, but definitely more than once a week.

Thursday night, June 4, 2009 was Jacob's last night to have a bottle. He had not had any during the day for awhile only at night. On Friday I just decided not to give him one and see how he did. Not having a bottle didn't phase him. He has always liked his sippy cups so the transition was smooth. However, my blogs at the end of the summer when we say "sayonara" to the paci may not be so upbeat. It is a little sad for him to be off the bottle and to know I no longer have a baby but a Toddler....AHHHHHH!

Last Saturday we went to the park for Roselyn's yearly work picnic. Can we say free BBQ? Not only can I say it I can eat it. After we ate we walked to the zoo with PawPaw and cousin Saige to see the animals. It was HOT! Most of the animals were snoozing in the shade. One of the female lions must be high strung like myself, because she was not resting like the others, but ready to pounce on cousin Drake's group of middle school friends. Jacob had a good time and crashed as soon as we got in the car.

Partyed out

One of the girls that occasionally attended the deaf church passed away Wednesday. She would have been 20 on June 29th. She had health challenges her whole life and recently got cancer in her mouth and then her lungs. When she was born the doctors told her parents she would only live until she was 6 or 7. She is the oldest person to live with the syndrome she was born with. (I can't remember what it's called-Read the Tankersley's blog for more info) Her funeral is tomorrow so please be in prayer for her family. Her name is Breezy O'Dell Parents Mark and Cindy and big brother Shane and wife Stephanie.

One of the fun moments of my week, work wise, was our Summer Blast children's program at the deaf church. It will be every Tuesday during June and July. For the first one we had 16 kids which is a lot for us. It was a blast (hence the name)! So if you see me on a Tuesday evening and I look a little worn, you'll know why.

I have to brag on my nephew Super Simon Swopes. His baseball team has made it into the city tournament and they had there first game last night. The Rangers won 11-6 and Simon got the game ball for hitting a triple! YAY! Good job Simon! We are proud of you!
